Every Fourth of July, this beautiful family comes together for their annual family reunion, creating memories that span generations. This year, they decided to preserve those moments with an extended family photography session at Butler Beach in St. Augustine, Florida.

As a Jacksonville family photographer, I love traveling throughout North Florida to photograph families in places that hold special meaning to them. From Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra Beach to St. Augustine, Amelia Island, and the surrounding coastal communities, I love documenting the connection, laughter, and little moments that make each family unique.

This sunrise family session at Butler Beach was absolutely worth the early morning drive. Leaving Jacksonville before sunrise meant a very early start, but the moment we arrived and saw the soft morning light over the ocean, it was clear that every minute was worth it.

The session included eight adults and seven children, bringing together siblings, their spouses, and their children for a beautiful multi-generational family gathering. Extended family sessions like this are some of my favorites because they tell a bigger story. They capture not only what a family looks like today, but the relationships, personalities, and memories that will be treasured for years to come.

Butler Beach is one of my favorite locations for St. Augustine beach family photos. The wide shoreline, beautiful dunes, and peaceful sunrise light create the perfect setting for relaxed, natural family portraits. Early morning sessions also give families cooler temperatures, softer light, and a quieter beach experience.

The morning light was truly magical. The sun slowly warmed everything with a golden glow, creating the dreamy coastal atmosphere that makes North Florida beach photography so special. As soon as the sun came up, the Florida heat arrived quickly, and we were all definitely feeling the July humidity. You would never know it by looking at these photographs, though. This family was incredible and handled everything like true professionals. They laughed, played, and embraced every moment together.

My approach to family photography is centered around connection and authenticity. I love creating lifestyle family photos that feel natural rather than overly posed. Whether it is grandparents with their grandchildren, siblings together again, cousins playing on the beach, or a quiet moment between parents and children, my goal is always to capture the genuine emotions that make your family yours.
